If I had to recommend only one book about yoga and mental health, this would be the one. Yoga for Emotional Balance seamlessly blends neuroscience, mindfulness practices, and mat-based asana sequences into a practical resource for yogis, therapists, and anyone interested in learning new skills to address anxiety and depression. I especially appreciated Forbes’ ability to give equal respect to eastern philosophies and modern developments in western medicine.  

This book focuses primarily on meditation and restorative yoga, outlining step-by-step sequences to address anxiety, depression and mixed anxiety-depression.  I have used these sequences in studio to close out an athletic vinyasa practice and to ground clients during sessions.
